In his defense, it had nothing to do with the harpy and everything to do with Vincent's ridiculous insecurities. How many times had he gotten close to someone, only to get burned or pushed aside? With Jay, though, all of that felt obsolete; gone was his past and all the toxic people along with it.
At the moment, it was only the two of them, ribbing and making passes at each other and the playful game of footsie beneath the table had made him laugh - an actual, genuine thing that burst forth before it could be stopped, which then led to something else he hadn't done in years: blushing. Thankfully, their waiter happened to stop by at the perfect time, allowing him to hide his face until the color faded away from his pale cheeks. If he was lucky, Jay wouldn't have noticed.

And now, on their way back to his room, Vin couldn't help feeling like there was something lingering between them. He couldn't quite put his finger on it and even though he was trying his best to be subtle by glancing from his peripheral and toying with his wild hair or fidgeting with his clothes, it still felt like something was being left unsaid.
